WriteOnCon

The answer to this week's Word of the Week is

driver's license

and I chose it because I finally have my German driver's license. It took weeks and mountains of paperwork, but I finally have it. It was hard for me to find etsy products pertaining to that topic. So I looked up things that someone would get as gifts for their first license. Do you have any better ideas for what would have made you think of licenses?

Tomorrow we will have Three Things Thursday. But for now I'm absorbed in WriteOnCon, an online writer's conference. So this post is getting cut short. I'm reading all the WriteOnCon blog posts and attempting to jump-start my writing motivation.

The Answer and a Blogfest

Ha! I stumped you all! Maybe that's a bad thing though? The answer is

sunset

or sunrise if you prefer. The colors yellow, orange, red, and then the three together in a sunset painting. So you tell me, did you enjoy it being harder or was it too hard? Don't you just love the yellow hair clip? If only I could pull that off and not look like I'm three years old.

I wanted to mention a blogfest that is coming up next month. A fellow blogger, Jen from unedited, blogged about her character and had her readers guess what said character looks like. Then she posted a picture the next day. It was so fun, and now she's turning it into a blogfest! It'll be on August 19/20. So check it out and join the fun. I'll be posting about my main character from my current novel (you've seen pieces of it already) Her Daughter.

Oooo, and tomorrow Hanna from I'll Name My Typewriter After the Moon is hosting a character party on her blog. Go check it out, it should be tons of fun. Kind of like a tea party on a blog.

The Answer

There are plenty of

insects

around here this summer. I'm guessing it's another byproduct of humidity to have so many bugs. And I just have to say it's extremely nice that the previous tenants of our apartment put screens on the windows. Because I can leave them all wide open and not worry about the millions of flying buzzers coming in to investigate the lights.

13.7.10

The Answer

The answer is

beach

Quite the variety of answers from everyone. I picked beach just because for about a week it had been muggy and humid. I grew up in Colorado where it gets very hot, but it is never, ever humid. I just don't see the point in constantly feeling soggy if you're not by a beach and some water. Plus I absolutely can't do anything in heat, especially wet heat. My body just shuts down. But then last night a thunderstorm finally broke the heat wave and today has been absolutely lovely. Just that little bit of extra water and the humidity goes away (don't ask me how the science works, it doesn't make sense to me).

So I hope you are all having a nice summer, perhaps with a pool or ocean thrown in, as well as some air conditioning. I'm sipping some cherry spritzer and enjoying the long day.

The Answer

I'm glad I stumped everybody!

princess

was my answer but besides the earrings you could say crown. I did kind of cheated with the 'princess cut' on the earrings, but they are also something a princess might wear. I'll have to make them tough more often; that was fun!

25.5.10

The Answer

Yep, family is the answer. Here's mine at Bodensee. We had a lovely long trip traveling around the southern parts of Germany and some of France. We dipped into Austria so my brother-in-law could say he had been there. I'll blog more about it when I have more pictures edited.

The Answer

I just read the book The Other Hand by Chris Cleave. Very good book by the way. It gave me the inspiration for this week. And the answer is

Africa

But since I've been studying so much German we have to spell it

Afrika

because with a C it actually looks wrong to me. My safari with my family in Tanzania was definitely the trip of a lifetime. To me Africa is the smell of wood-fires and the color of deep sunsets shining brightly in my face with the funky donkeyish sound of Zebras calling in my ears. That trip taught me a lot of things, and it was a lot of fun to boot.

I was given my first blog award by Christine Danek at Christine's Journey. So exciting.

And I will pass it on to:
Cora at C Kemp Shoot - even though we're buddies outside of our blogs
Linda at a la mode stuff - she makes the coolest seat-belt bags!
Tali at Imperfectly Perfect - beautiful photography and a glimpse into life in Israel
Laura at Laura Evans Photography - the crazy adventures she has
Juliette at Zuhause in Germany - for a fellow expat

I have been doing a lot of home projects and get to show you guys this week. Pictures and partial tutorials starting tomorrow.

Die Antwort

Die Antwort ist

der Schlussel

The answer is

key

I really love those big brass ones that only have two teeth and look like they belong in a castle. But then there are those keys on my piano, that I miss so much. Or the key to the music I play which is called a clef (clef is key in French). Or the keys on my keyboard that I use to write words everyday. So many uses for one word.

Guess what, we're having a give-away next week! Come back and play Word of the Week for a chance to win a prize.

I have a poll to open up as well, I'll do that later this week. It's a question about being a blog reader and comments.

Lastly, don't forget to enter my 100 Followers 100 Photos give-away. Just click the link on the right with my self portrait to see the blog post. It ends tomorrow.

I think that's all of the news. I have some photos from Paris to share tomorrow. Have a good day!

The Answer

Only Albert got it right, and no I didn't help him. Baking certainly does fit, but I meant

cake

as in Marie Antoinette saying, 'Let them eat cake!' (Which she didn't say.) Or Julia Child loving butter, which you need to bake cake. And you can have your cake and eat it too. Here are the cupcakes I made because looking at so many cake items made me want cake. But I didn't have frosting because Albert couldn't find it and I didn't have confectioners sugar to make it with, sad day. But they were simple and yummy. Randomly they came out looking glazed, don't ask don't tell, right?

Die Antwort

Natürlich ist die Antwort

Fahrrad

The answer of course is

bicycle

I really want one now that we live in an area where it's worth it. My parents house is in the country and not exactly close enough to any town to go cruising on a bike. I would love one of those old silver Schwinn ones. But they seem to be pretty expensive. We live in between the city and the country here. So I can go bike riding in the open space to the left or the city to the right. It's a very good spot, and we're loving it. Pictures from the Geneva car show soon.

is the winner! Thank you to thirtyonedesigns for providing the prize. And thanks for playing guys.

Albert and I are headed to a fancy car show in Switzerland tomorrow. I'll have some pictures of the beautys for you.

2.3.10

The Answer

Yep, yep, yep. I made lemonade with

lemons

I will update on some stuff later. Right now I need my bed. We had our first Deutschland poker night on a whim tonight and it was such a blast! Poker night at our house was a typical occurrence back in Colorado, and I'm looking forward to making that happen here again. Night all!

26.2.10

Our Winner

Thanks for playing guys. I really love this necklace and am excited to give it to

Kelli

Thank you again to chinacherie for the prize. We have another give-away coming up soon. Yay!

16.2.10

The Answer

The answer is most definitely

buttons

I just loved all the buttons I found so I made it the word. Remember, next week is a give-away!!!

9.2.10

Küss Mich! Kiss Me!

So, no, this didn't have to do with Valentine's Day. I just happened to find some really awesome products that had to do with

kisses

I even forgot how appropriate the answer was until I was posting it. Tells you how involved in this holiday I am. I don't entirely agree with the whole idea. Why do I need a specific day to tell my family and loved ones that I love them? It's so not spontaneous when a guy proposes on Valentine's. Or even just takes his girlfriend/wife out on a date. It's like a catch-all day for the guys who forget to pamper their women. And I just won't take that as an excuse.

So here's to all the other days in the year that someone gives you a kiss.

2.2.10

The Answer

This is the most snow Germany has had in thirty years. We've had two blizzards and some days of constant, lazy snowflakes. Everyone around me keeps whining about how cold it is and how they want spring or summer to come back. But I don't. I love

winter

and that's how it is. The lovely snow falling. A reason to wear sweaters. A reason to stay inside and cuddle with my husband, reading books and drinking tea. I get very sluggish in the summer. I don't do well with heat. I love this winter.

26.1.10

The Answer

This week's word was meant to be because my friend told me she bought blueberries at the store. Hence, my inspiration. But then I spoke on skype with my sister, and my niece was munching on blueberries. I loved the things I found too! Although I haven't seen blueberries at our store here yet, and now I'm craving them. Guess I'll have to be patient. I'm sure they are just as fresh as everything else here in Germany, so they will be the best blueberries ever. I think I should say blueberries just one more time so there are five big, blue words here. Three's and five's are good sets of numbers. And now I'm being random. Please forgive me, I have a head cold and it seems to be making me act weird.

19.1.10

The Answer

Yes,

tomato

is the answer. Tomato, tomahto...potato, potahto...that doesn't sound as good when it's written down.

Today is the last day to vote on the (mouse without a name). So get to it! I'll announce his name tomorrow with another photo.

15.1.10

The Winner

Guess what Mom...you finally won one of my give-aways! Your perseverance in playing every time has paid off. You get a set of word beads from nomadcraftsetc. Thank you to everyone who came and played. I was very excited about this prize because it so aptly matches the game.

The Answer and A Deutschland Adventure

I'm sitting in Albert's office writing this blog post...because we locked ourselves out of our new apartment. In Deutschland the doors lock like a hotel room, the instant you shut the door you better have your key because it is locked tight. Luckily, we live ten minutes from the office and found someone to let us in (considering Albert's badge is in the apartment along with cell phones). We called a locksmith and Albert is over there now. Hopefully he calls me in a few minutes.

Since I'm here...the answer is

tea

and I would really love some right now. I plan to make myself a cup the instant we get back in. So when you move to Deutschland, remember, the doors lock automatically and you need to carry your keys!
